Whether you’re a seasoned, professional model or if you’re just someone who practiced smizing in the mirror when you were 14 (certainly not me), engagement sessions are so beneficial to do before your wedding day. Not only do they give you and your partner killer photos to love forever, use on your save the dates, and more, but they give us time to get to know each other ahead of your wedding day.

If you aren’t considering an engagement session, let’s talk about why you should definitely make the leap.

You’ll be more comfortable with your photographer

First of all, I promise you that you are not awkward, you’re cute as hell – you probably just haven’t had a fun photo shoot yet to prove it! This isn’t at all like the time your family pulled you all outside on Thanksgiving, makes all sorts of Dad jokes and forces you all to say “CHEESE N RICE!”. That’s not my style (well, the jokes might be) and chances are it’s not yours either. I’m here to help you to relax and look natural in front of the camera.

Being comfortable with your wedding photographer is so important. We spend 8, 10, sometimes up to 12 hours together on your wedding day, so you definitely want someone that you vibe well with. Having someone you’re comfortable working with not only means you’ll have an easier time loosening up for your portraits, but you’ll be totally confident that you are in professional, awesome hands.  I may ask you to stand places that might not seem so great (like a parking lot), or ask you to do something silly like lick your partners nose (It’s happened!). Sometimes things seem might strange outside of the camera, but I promise I’m seeing something completely different through that viewfinder.

Your wedding photos will look that much better (and that’s a fact)

Now that you’re extra comfortable with your photographer, your wedding portraits will look INCREDIBLE. Practice really makes perfect, and having an engagement session is excellent practice for your wedding day since this session is all about you and your partner. Especially if you haven’t been professionally photographed in a minute (or ever!), our time together will help you feel a little more comfortable in front of the camera and you’ll be ready to go on your wedding day.

Engagement sessions help me learn the two of you, too. Everyone has stressors or insecurities, so this gives me an opportunity to learn more about what types of prompts work best for you and your partner. If something feels silly or just not right, we can adjust!

I have so many iPhone photos of Dan and myself (mostly of him sleeping in weird places with me lmafo-ing next to him), but how many professional photos do we have? Absolutely zero (until our proposal, which he sneakily hired a professional to capture for us!) Will we be doing engagement photos? Absolutely!

Engagement sessions give you the opportunity to have cute photos of the two of you in not-so-fancy outfits (Or fancy! Choose your own adventure!). You can use these photos for things like your Save the Dates, your wedding website, print them out ad plaster them all over your welcome table, your wedding guest book, and more. You can even update that Facebook (or LinkedIn) profile photo you haven’t updated in awhile! Not to mention, you know your mom or grandma will love a copy of the two of you looking absolutely amazing so she can show the two of you off to her friends.

Let’s be real: they’re just a blast

Engagement sessions are a great chance to connect with your partner in a brand new way. It’s an awesome chance to capture your unique love story and have a total blast while doing it (love Shake Shack? Hell yeah – let’s get some photos of you chowing down on a burger together!). I am basically a professional third-wheel (and Shake Shack enabler), so during your session I promise you’ll have tons of fun and we’ll get to know a little more about each other, and you’ll prooobably get to hear all about my cats (MY BABIES!!!!). By the end of your session, we’ll be besties and you’ll be models with some awesome professional photos to hold you over until the most exciting day of your life.

On a scale of one to A MILLION, how stoked are you to book your engagement session? Drop me an email and let’s make models out of you!
